Adapting, Innovating, and Leading in the Rapidly Changing IT Industry

At PSI, we pride ourselves on working with top-tier talent to deliver innovative solutions for our clients. One such expert is Joseph Holmesmeyer, an analytics practitioner with a decade of experience in big data, analytics, and cloud migration. We recently sat down with Joseph to discuss his journey, his work with PSI and Cardinal Health, and his thoughts on the future of data-driven decision-making.

Q: Joseph, tell us a little about your background and how you started working with PSI.

I started my career at Nike, where I worked my way up from an analyst role to managing a team in supply chain analytics. From there, I transitioned to Wayfair, helping to lead their merchandising analytics team during the e-commerce boom of the pandemic.

Eventually, I moved into consulting, working on Google Cloud migrations for major enterprises like Boeing and General Mills. After leaving a large consulting firm, I founded my own LLC and took some time off to backpack through Asia. When I returned, PSI reached out with an opportunity to work with Cardinal Health, and the rest is history!

Q: What kind of work have you been doing with Cardinal Health?

At Cardinal Health, we’ve been leading a Google Cloud migration project, moving decades of informatino from Teradata to a modern, cloud-based infrastructure. This involved:

  • Migrating vast data warehouses from legacy on-premise systems to Google Cloud.
  • Rebuilding data logic to ensure accuracy and usability.
  • Implementing Looker, a powerful business intelligence tool, to give users real-time access to analytics.
  • Developing a customer-facing platform, Order Express, which helps 3,000+ users access critical business insights quickly and efficiently.

This transformation has streamlined decision-making, eliminated inefficiencies, and provided one source of truth for all stakeholders.

Q: What impact has this project had on Cardinal Health?

The impact has been huge, both internally and externally. Internally, teams can now make data-driven decisions with confidence, eliminating discrepancies between siloed reports. What used to take days or weeks to analyze is now available in seconds. For customers, especially small pharmacies and clinics without dedicated analysts, this tool simplifies access to business insights. They can now track spending, analyze trends, and optimize purchasing decisions—all in one place.

Q: What challenges did you face in this project?

Every cloud migration comes with challenges! One of the biggest was untangling 20 years of legacy data logic.

Additionally, many users had relied on the old system for years and were resistant to switching. But once they got comfortable with the new tools, the feedback was really positive—many saying they could never go back to the old way of working.

Q: What has been your experience working with PSI?

PSI has been fantastic. They keep things simple by handling the admin work, so I don’t have to worry about it. They’re always available when I need them, but never micromanage. The team is supportive, responsive, and easy to work with.

For anyone looking for a flexible, hassle-free consulting experience, I’d absolutely recommend PSI.

Q: What’s next for you?

Right now, I’m focused on finishing the Cardinal Health project and ensuring everything runs smoothly. Beyond that, I like to challenge myself with new opportunities—I thrive on learning and adapting to new environments. Consulting gives me the variety and problem-solving opportunities I love, and I plan to keep exploring different industries and projects.

Stay tuned for more consultant spotlights as we continue to feature the incredible talent behind PSI’s success!
