Mobile Web Application Project
The Background
The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS) sought ways to improve the level of service it offered to Ohio residents. With the pervasive nature of smartphones and tablets, Ohio residents were demanding more access to key information and functionality for accounts such as unemployment benefits distribution. ODJFS sought a partner to help guide their direction – both from a technology best-practices perspective, as well as around an engaging user experience. PSI was selected to build the ODJFS solution.
The Approach
Given that mobile was relatively new to ODJFS, PSI recommended taking an approach which maximized the near term value, minimized the near term costs, and provided ODJFS with the opportunity for purposeful expansion long term. Our solution architecture was designed to reuse and extend elements of the existing desktop web infrastructure wherever possible to reduce implementation costs, improve security and simplify maintenance of the complete system. We extended the existing ODJFS web site to provide access tailored for mobile web browsers. The engagement was an 8 Month – Fixed-Fee delivery effort using an agile SDLC approach. PSI provided Project Management, Business Analysis, Architecture design, UX/UI Design, Build, Testing, Implementation, Knowledge Transfer and Maintenance.
The Results
The Application was delivered within budget and went into production with no issues. Within the first week 15% of Ohio’s unemployed were using the mobile solution for weekly claims reporting. To date the mobile solution is handling an estimated 60% of weekly claims reporting activity and growing.
